Year 6

Our Curriculum

We cover a range of interesting topics across the school year. The yearly overview provided gives an insight to some of the activities your child will be participating in and experiencing each term.

Class Information and Homework

PE Lessons

We have PE lessons twice a week so please ensure your child has their P.E. kit in school at the beginning of each week and it is named.

Reading

At Wingate Primary School, we aim to foster a love of reading and to increase exposure to different types of texts. Through whole class reading, we aim to develop our fluency and comprehension skills.

We encourage the use of Bug Club and Reading Plus for children to access a range of different texts at home as well as in school.  At the end of each school day, we have Dream Time, where we read a text which is chosen by the class.

Maths

Children are encouraged to use Times Tables Rock Stars regularly at home with a weekly target of 20 minutes to build speed, accuracy and confidence. This is to prepare them for their end of Key Stage 2 SATs. 

Homework

During the Autumn term, children are expected to complete their Reading Plus assignments and regularly access Times Tables Rock Stars as part of their homework.

From the Spring term onwards, children are provided with homework booklets for Maths, Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar (SPaG), and Reading. Homework pages are set weekly on a Friday with children expected to complete and return their homework by the following Wednesday. Reading Plus assignments and Times Table Rock Stars minutes are expected to be completed additionally. If you have any questions about our homework, please speak to your child’s class teacher.
